The National Council of Justice (CNJ) officially launched CriptoJud in August 2025 , a revolutionary system that promises to transform how the Brazilian justice system handles digital assets. The system was presented by Minister Luís Roberto Barroso during the 10th Ordinary Session of the CNJ, which took place on the 5th of this month. It was developed to automate the blocking of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies directly on national exchanges, eliminating the need for manual requests for each platform. This tool represents a milestone in the modernization of the Brazilian judicial system, being compared to SisbaJud , but specifically focused on the world of digital assets.

How does CryptoJud work?

CryptoJud operates through a centralized electronic environment that allows judges to simultaneously access all cryptocurrency exchanges registered in the system. Previously, to verify if a debtor possessed digital assets, it was necessary to send individual requests to each exchange , a slow and fragmented process that clearly did not provide the desired effectiveness to the Brazilian judicial process.

With the new platform, the tracking and blocking of cryptocurrencies happens in an integrated way, with complete traceability and sophisticated cybersecurity protocols. The system will be implemented in all courts in the country through the Jus.br Portal .

The implementation of CryptoJud represents a significant evolution in the effectiveness of judicial decisions involving digital assets. The seized crypto assets will be held in judicial custody, and subsequently liquidated in Brazilian reais through integration with the Digital Platform of the Judiciary (PDPJBr).

What are the benefits of CryptoJud?

This automation can significantly accelerate the process of recovering assets in judicial executions, offering greater transparency and control over assets that were previously difficult to trace. The system also strengthens the Judiciary’s ability to act quickly and accurately in a market that moves significant sums of money and is growing in complexity. It is an important tool for making credit recovery effective.

The development of CriptoJud relied on the fundamental collaboration of ABCripto (Brazilian Association of Cryptoeconomy), which assisted in integrating exchanges into the system environment. This public-private partnership demonstrates the growing maturity of the Brazilian cryptocurrency market and the sector’s willingness to collaborate with regulatory authorities. The participation of national exchanges in the system is essential for its effective operation, creating a unified and reliable channel for communication between the Judiciary and digital asset trading platforms.

The launch of CriptoJud coincides with the growing interest of Brazilian authorities in the cryptocurrency market, exemplified by Minister Barroso’s own statement that he intends to invest in digital assets as soon as he better understands how they work. This stance reflects the transformation of crypto assets from a “remote reference” to a current asset in the national economy.

The system represents not only a technological advancement but also the official recognition of the importance of cryptocurrencies in the Brazilian financial landscape, positioning the Judiciary as a protagonist in the governance of new financial technologies and establishing a balance between innovation, security, and institutional responsibility .
